For the sake of close research in an environment free of the city's traffic and clamour, the university stands on Swadhinata Sarak, 12 kilometres from the main city of Jashore. The pleasant setting of the campus and the charming rural surroundings catch everyone's eye. Yes, I am speaking of Jashore University of Science and Technology.

Introduction
Jashore University of Science and Technology — JUST for short — is the first and only public university of the greater Jashore district in the south-west of Bangladesh. With the aim of creating opportunities for modern learning and research through higher education, the foundation stone of the university was laid on 25 January 2007 over 35 acres at a place called Ambottola in Sajiali mouza of Churamankati union, Jashore Sadar upazila. In 2009, for the 2008–2009 academic year, admission was completed for 200 students in the departments of “Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)”, “Environmental Science and Technology (EST)”, “Microbiology (MB)” and “Fisheries and Marine Bioscience (FMB)” — the work of the university's first batch.
At present about 4,300 students are studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level across 24 departments under 7 faculties.
Why study here?
Jashore University of Science and Technology is among the country's notable science and technology universities. Its engineering faculty in particular carries on its work with a nationwide reputation. There is also a beautiful campus surrounded by greenery. Alongside the various science faculties there are faculties of business studies and of arts and social science. So there is scope to study not only science subjects but also departments of business administration, arts and social science. JUST also has a remarkable campus surrounded by greenery, together with facilities of every kind. Qualified teachers, up-to-date labs, halls, a central field, an auditorium, a cafeteria — every such facility is there at JUST. For co-curricular activity there are various clubs and societies, which make campus life more colourful still.

What is it known for?
JUST is known especially for high-quality research and invention. As an example, in 2018 a 17-member research team from Jashore University of Science and Technology, led by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Anwar Hossain, developed an effective vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease caused by a circulating virus in Bangladesh. For this the Vice-Chancellor received the gold medal of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Eight students of the third batch of JUST's Industrial and Production Engineering department also invented a drone named ‘ঢ ধীরং ৩৪০', fitted with a rotatable camera and other modern equipment.
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has a sculpture called Adammo-71, which has increased the beauty of the campus many times over.
Admission process
Like several other universities, Jashore University of Science and Technology currently allows a second-time attempt, which creates very stiff competition in the admission test. Admission tests for undergraduate study (honours and engineering) are held at JUST in various units towards the end of November each year. The admission test is out of 100 marks in total, of which 80 marks are examined by MCQ. The remaining 20 marks come from the GPA of the secondary and higher secondary examinations.
Final words
For quality research in a charming setting free of the city's traffic and clamour, the JUST campus is something else. So keep this green 35-acre JUST campus in view now, alongside the other universities.
